Mounting the L-bracket for handheld and tripod use

The Elura 100 camcorder does not have an accessory shoe, therefore one has to use an L-bracket for microphone or external light. The combination of an L-bracket and the camcorder does not work well with tripods. With a bracket, the camcorder is raised over tripod plate, it wiggles and rotates as it likes. Even a slightest touch results in vibration. A better solution was in order.

The solution I came up with is attaching the bracket to the quick-release plate, not to the camcorder. This way you can unlatch the plate along with the camcorder from the tripod, and shoot handheld in the usual manner. The plate attached to the camcorder does not interfere with shooting.

Using the quick-release plate to mount the bracket

The Elura 100 is mounted farther back on the plate, leaving some space in front. This space turned out to be ideal for L-bracket mounting. All I did is I made a hole in the plate and attached the bracket with a bolt and nut. Because the bracket moved forward, it became possible to attach microphone from the right side of the camcorder. The bracket does not interfere with the right hand and the microphone nicely balances camera's weight.

There is no hole for a locking pin on the Elura 100, so to further improve the rigidity I used velcro tape on the plate and on the bottom of the camcorder. This setup works very well.

Wireless setup works too

The L-bracket allows using wireless receiver as well. Here you can see ATR-88W receiver attached to the L-bracket with velcro tape.
